Growing Tomatoes in a Greenhouse: Tips & Tricks for Juicy Success

1. Choose the Right Variety Opt for greenhouse-specific or indeterminate (vining) tomato varieties like 'Sungold', 'Moneymaker', or 'Gardeners Delight'. These produce fruit over a longer period and thrive in controlled environments.

2. Train and Support Early Use vertical string trellises or tomato cages to support plants as they grow. Start training your tomatoes while they’re still small — this reduces stress and helps airflow.

3. Prune for Productivity Remove side shoots (“suckers”) regularly to focus the plant’s energy on fruit production. Also, trim lower leaves to improve air circulation and prevent disease.

4. Pollinate by Hand Unlike outdoors, greenhouses lack wind and pollinators. Gently shake flowering trusses or use a soft brush to transfer pollen between flowers.

5. Feed and Water Consistently Tomatoes are heavy feeders. Use a high-potassium feed (like tomato fertilizer) once fruits start forming. Water deeply and regularly — uneven watering leads to split fruits and blossom end rot.

6. Monitor Humidity and Temperature Keep daytime temperatures between 21–27°C (70–80°F) and night temps above 13°C (55°F). Ventilate to reduce humidity and prevent fungal issues. With a bit of care and attention, your greenhouse tomatoes will reward you with a rich harvest from early summer well into autumn.

Happy growing!
